The Vatican will exhibit newly commissioned artworks at this year’s Venice Biennale for the first time in an exhibition entitled Creation, Un-Creation, Re-Creation.
The exhibition, which will run from June 1st until November 24th, will avoid overtly religious imagery and has instead asked its artist to draw on themes within the Book of Genesis.
Three commissions make up the exhibition’s thematic trilogy. The Milan-based multimedia group Studio Azzurro was selected for the “Creation” section; Czech photographer Koudelka for “Un-Creation”; and Australian-born painter Lawrence Carroll for the theme “Re-Creation”.
